This year, Revolution Foods celebrated the one-millionth breakfast served at SFUSD in the classroom with the students of Dr. Martin Luther King Academic Middle School.

At MLK Middle School and other SFUSD partner locations, students eat Revolution Foods’ breakfast after the morning bell which ensures they receive proper nutrition and fuel before school starts for the day. Instead of just serving breakfast in the cafeteria before the bell, SFUSD is working to increase the number of schools who offer Breakfast in the Classroom, Grab and Go Breakfast (a model that allows students to pick up conveniently packaged breakfasts from mobile service carts in high traffic areas and eat the meal in the classroom before the bell has rung), and Second Chance Breakfast (a model that allows students to eat breakfast during a break in the morning, often between first and second period). At Revolution Foods, we partner with schools to provide customized breakfast platforms that work best for their needs so that all students have equal access to healthy, delicious breakfast.

We make it easy to eat a healthy breakfast

For many families, getting kids to eat breakfast before heading off to school adds more stress to mornings. Transportation challenges, lack of appetite in the early morning, and rushed morning routines are only a few reasons why some students may miss breakfast before school. By offering breakfast at times after the start of the school day, students have better access to nutritious food that helps them concentrate on their learning.

Just as with Revolution Foods’ lunch and supper programs, the breakfast program offers high-quality, nutritious meals featuring clean label ingredients, including fresh local and regional produce, high-quality proteins, and rBST-free dairy products from local dairies. All meals are made from wholesome ingredients free of artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners, and we never use high fructose corn syrup or trans-fats in our foods.

A healthy breakfast improves academic success

Schools who offer breakfast items for students have seen increased breakfast participation, decreased complaints of hunger pains, fewer disruptions in classrooms, and higher consumption of fruits. Research shows that a healthy breakfast positively affects learning in children in terms of behavior, cognitive function, and school performance.

Since first offering Breakfast in the Classroom in 2017, MLK has increased the number of students eating breakfast at school by 700 percent. Here at Revolution Foods, we couldn’t be more thrilled to know this program has positively impacted student test scores, attendance levels, behavior and ability to focus.

Students love Revolution Foods breakfast options

By providing a variety of hot and cold breakfasts, including whole-grain French toast with maple turkey sausage, chorizo-spiced chicken sausage, omelet bagel sandwich, and whole grain apple granola bars, students are looking forward to breakfast now more than ever. Check out our sample menu for a better idea of our breakfast offerings.
