Personalize Your Plate: National Nutrition Month
Community & Partnerships
March is National Nutrition Month! Created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, National Nutrition Month reminds us to celebrate the virtues of good nutrition. This year’s theme is Personalize Your Plate. It’s no secret that creating a healthy lifestyle does not happen with a one-size-fits-all approach, but by a culmination of personalized goals and habits. At Revolution Foods, we help build the foundation for lifelong healthy eaters by offering an array of nutritious, culturally relevant meals to students and adults across the country.
The Academy offers four areas to focus on personalizing your plate:
- Vary your diet– Eat a variety of nutritious foods every day
- Meal Planning– Plan what you’ll eat no matter if you’re at school, work or home
- Cook & Prep– Learn skills to create tasty meals to share and enjoy
- Visit an RDN– See a registered dietitian nutritionist
Here are a few ideas of how you can celebrate National Nutrition Month with your kids!
- Visit their website to download fun activities for your kids like a Nutrition Crossword Puzzle or a ‘Fact or Fiction’ Nutrition Quiz
- Have an impromptu taste test. The next time you are in the produce section of the grocery store, pick a fruit or vegetable that you’ve always seen but never tried. Have your kids take a bite, and maybe they will have a new favorite food to personalize their plate!
- Build dinners with MyPlate in mind. Aim for ½ of your plate to be fruits and vegetables, ¼ healthy grains, ¼ protein along with a serving of dairy for a well-rounded, nutritious meal
- Pass it on! Volunteer or donate to a local food pantry
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, has a plethora of resources to kick off the month! Visit their website to learn more!
