Heating and Refrigeration Instructions for the COVID-19 Meal Assistance Program

 The City of New Orleans, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Revolution Foods, in collaboration with restaurants across the city, is honored to support the COVID-19 Meal Assistance Program, providing daily meals to all that are eligible. 

If you are in need of food, are in any of the following categories, and are not receiving any other federal food support, call 3-1-1 (504-658-2299) or go to to apply for this program.

  • Seniors age 65 and above
  • Adults with high-risk health conditions and special medical needs
  • Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 or have been exposed and require home isolation or quarantine
  • Homeless residents
  • Children under 18

Once you’ve received a meal from us, please use the following heating and refrigeration instructions: 

  • Storage instructions: Keep the meals refrigerated below 41º F until ready to consume. Eat within 2 days of pick-up or freeze to preserve freshness.
  • Oven heating (recommended): Preheat oven to 265º F; use convection (fan) setting if possible. Remove meals from packaging and place in oven-safe container. Cover with lid or aluminum foil. Cook for approximately 20 minutes. Stir, then return to oven. Check & stir every 5-10 minutes until heated throughout. Cook time will vary based on meal type and oven temperature; meals should reach an internal temperature of 165º F before consumption.
  • Microwave heating: Remove meals from packaging and place in microwave-safe container to heat. Cover but allow slight venting for steam to escape. Heat meal on high for 30 seconds. Stir and heat for an additional 30 seconds until heated throughout; meals should reach an internal temperature of 165º F before consumption.
